Reverse description Central field bearing two lines of Arabic inscription in thuluth script presenting the Shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith: 'There is no god but God / Muhammad is the Messenger of God.' A circular marginal legend surrounds the central inscriptions with the pious invocation 'May his victory be glorified' (azza nasruhu). The die-struck lettering is bold and deeply impressed, typical of late Mamluk hammered gold coinage, with the flan slightly uneven at the periphery.
