Obverse description Laureate head of Emperor Vitellius facing right, the portrait rendered with characteristic fleshy features typical of his iconography. The effigy is depicted bare-necked, with a bold laurel wreath crowning the head. The encircling Latin legend reads A VITELLIVS GERM IMP AVG P M TR P, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The overall style is consistent with the hammered bronze coinage struck at the Rome mint during the brief reign of Vitellius in AD 69.
