| Reverse description | Standing figure of Libertas facing left, draped in a long stola, holding a pileus (freedman's cap) in her right hand and a vindicta (rod) in her left — the traditional iconographic attributes symbolising the restoration of liberty. The senatorial authorisation mark S C (Senatus Consultum) flanks the figure in the left and right fields respectively, affirming the Senate's sanction of this bronze coinage. The surrounding legend LIBERTAS RESTITVTA proclaims the restoration of freedom, a politically charged message central to Vitellius's propaganda. The reverse is struck on an irregular, slightly off-centre flan with moderate surface encrustation but retaining legible detail. |
