The Judaea Capta series was issued across multiple denominations for roughly a decade following the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD, functioning as deliberate propaganda rather than incidental commemoration — Vespasian needed the Jewish War to legitimize a dynasty with no hereditary claim to power. The conquest bankrolled his reign; the coins announced it.
By 77–78, these bronzes were still being struck nearly eight years after the campaign ended, an unusually prolonged propagandistic run that reflects just how politically load-bearing that victory remained for the Flavians.
