| 表面の説明 | Laureate head of Vespasian facing right, rendered in bold high relief with characteristic portraiture of the Flavian dynasty, displaying the emperor's strong, aged features. The bare neck terminates cleanly at the coin's lower field. The encircling legend runs clockwise along the outer border, separated from the portrait by a shallow inner rim. |

Vespasian struck heavily in aes coinage during 71 AD, the year following his formal recognition as emperor after the chaotic Year of the Four Emperors. The AEQVITAS AVGVSTI type was deliberate political messaging — Vespasian needed to project fiscal integrity after Nero's debasements and the treasury devastation of civil war. He was, by ancient accounts, ostentatiously tight with money, and the equitas iconography reinforced his public positioning as a restorer of sound imperial finance rather than a spendthrift.
RIC II.1 #286 places this among the Rome mint issues of his third consulship year.
