Trajan's Fortuna types in aes coinage cluster heavily around the years following his Dacian campaigns, when the flow of Dacian silver into Rome created genuine optimism about imperial finances. The FORTVNAE AVGVSTI legend frames that optimism in explicitly religious terms — the emperor's personal fortune as a divine, transferable quantity, not merely a political abstraction.
RIC II 441 is among the more frequently encountered Trajanic asses, suggesting consistent production across the relevant workshop sessions at Rome.
