Titus reigned just over two years, making every issue from his principate comparatively scarce. This as was struck in the immediate aftermath of the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, which buried Pompeii and Herculaneum, and the great fire and plague that devastated Rome in 80 AD. The PAX AVGVST type was not idle propaganda — Titus spent lavishly on disaster relief, and ancient sources including Suetonius credit him with depleting the imperial treasury to fund recovery efforts.
RIC II.1 235 is a Rome mint product, struck on the heavier pre-Domitianic standard before the bronze coinage was further debased under his successor.
