| Reverse description | The reverse displays the large senatorial monogram SC (Senatus Consulto) in bold relief at the centre of the field, signifying that the coin was issued by authority of the Senate. Surrounding the SC, a circular legend in Latin capitals reads IMP T CAES DIVI VESP F AVG P M TR P COS VIII P P RESTITVIT, identifying the issuing emperor Titus and recording that he has restored this coin type. The legend is arranged around the full circumference of the flan, with the text beginning at the top and running clockwise. The field is otherwise plain, focusing attention on the prominent central monogram. This restitution type was struck by Titus to revive earlier Tiberian bronze coinage in circulation. |
