背面描述 A bull standing to the right, rendered in sturdy, naturalistic relief characteristic of Iberian Roman provincial coinage. The animal is depicted with clearly modeled musculature and a downward-turned head. The names of the two duoviri magistrates, L. Pompeius Bucco and L. Cornelius Fronto, are inscribed in Latin capitals divided above and below the bull: L POMPE BVCCO in the upper field and L CORNE FRONT in the lower exergual area. A beaded border frames the entire design.

附加信息

Celsa — the Roman colony established at modern Velilla de Ebro in the Ebro valley — was granted the right to strike its own bronze coinage following Caesar's reorganization of Hispania, and this as belongs to the magistrate series issued under duoviri whose names appear in the coin's legends. The pairing of local magistrates L. Pompeius Bucco and L. Cornelius Fronto places this issue within a narrow administrative window during Octavian's consolidation of the western provinces before the Augustan settlement of 27 BC.

Colonial bronze from Celsa circulated heavily in the Ebro corridor and worn survivors are far more common than crisp examples.
