Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Emperor Nero facing left, portrayed with the characteristic thick neck and youthful, heavily modeled features associated with his later portrait style; a small globe is placed at the truncation of the neck, symbolizing world dominion. The hair is rendered in a series of layered curls swept forward across the brow in the Julio-Claudian fashion. A circular Latin legend runs around the full periphery of the flan. The portrait is bold and high-relief, typical of the Neronian bronze coinage issued following the monetary reforms of AD 63–64.
