| Reverse description | Full-length standing figure of Nero in the guise of Apollo Citharoedus, laureate and draped, advancing to the right while playing a large kithara (lyre) held before him with both hands. The figure is rendered in the classicizing style characteristic of Neronian bronze coinage, with flowing robes and careful attention to the instrument's strings and frame. The large senatorial authority marks S and C (Senatus Consulto) are prominently placed in the central field to left and right of the figure respectively. The reverse legend encircles the design, recording the emperor's principal titles, and the overall composition reflects Nero's well-documented personal identification with Apollo and the musical arts. |
