This as belongs to the reformed Neronian bronze coinage introduced around 64 AD, when Nero reduced the weight standard for aes coinage as part of a broader monetary adjustment that also debased the silver denarius. The reform was practical — Rome's military and administrative expenditures under Nero were substantial — but it marked the first significant debasement of the imperial bronze series since Augustus established it.
