Reverse description The reverse depicts a frontal view of the Temple of Janus, shown as a rectangular structure with a tiled or gabled roof, two doorways with latticed or barred gates rendered closed, and decorated side pilasters. The closed gates of the Janus temple signify the state of universal peace throughout the Roman world. The senatorial authorisation mark S C (Senatus Consultum) appears in the lower field, one letter to each side of the temple. The encircling legend PACE P R VBIQ PARTA IANVM CLVSIT runs around the periphery of the flan within a beaded border.
