| Obverse description | Bare head of Emperor Nero facing right, rendered with characteristic youthful features and elaborately dressed hair typical of his later portraiture; a small globe appears at the truncation of the neck, symbolizing world dominion. The effigy is boldly modeled in high relief and occupies the majority of the flan. The encircling legend runs from lower left to right around the portrait in a confident, well-spaced Latin inscription. The overall style reflects the accomplished die engraving of the Neronian imperial workshops. |
