| Obverse description | Laureate draped bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, with finely rendered curled hair and beard characteristic of his mature portraiture. The effigy displays a paludamentum (military cloak) fastened at the right shoulder, visible at the truncation. The encircling Latin legend HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS runs along the rim, partially legible on this example. The portrait is executed in the naturalistic Hadrianic style, reflecting the classicizing aesthetic prevalent in Roman imperial coinage of the early second century AD. |
