| Obverse description | Bare-headed, draped bust of Emperor Galba facing right, rendered with characteristic aged physiognomy including prominent jowls and a strongly defined jaw. The effigy displays the emperor's neck and upper drapery in the conventional imperial manner. The encircling Latin legend reads IMP SER SVLP GALBA CAES AVG TR P, distributed around the full circumference of the flan. The portrait style reflects the realistic veristic tradition of Roman Republican portraiture, presenting Galba's features with unidealized naturalism. The fields show a patinated bronze surface with areas of green encrustation typical of long-buried Roman aes coinage. |
