She holds a pileus (freedman's cap) in her raised right hand and a sceptre or vindicta (rod of manumission) in her left hand, both attributes emblematic of the libertas theme prominently promoted during Galba's reign as a repudiation of Neronian tyranny. The senatorial authorization marks S and C (Senatus Consulto) appear in the left and right fields respectively, flanking the central figure. The reverse legend is disposed around the outer border, and the overall style reflects Rome Mint production of the AD 68–69 period. |
