| Beschrijving keerzijde | Standing figure of Libertas facing left in the field, draped in a flowing stola, holding a pileus (freedman's cap) in her extended right hand and a long vertical sceptre or rod in her left hand. The allegorical personification of Public Liberty is rendered in the classical style, symbolising the restored freedom proclaimed by Galba upon his accession. The legend LIBERTAS PVBLICA is distributed around the periphery, while the senatorial authority mark S C (Senatus Consultum) appears in the field to either side of the figure, authorising the issue of this bronze denomination. The overall design reflects the strong political messaging of Galba's brief reign, emphasising constitutional legitimacy and the end of Neronian tyranny. |
