This as dates to the brief period when Domitian held the title Caesar under his brother Titus, before assuming the purple himself in September 81 AD. The VICTORIA AVGVST legend almost certainly references Titus's Judaean triumph rather than any fresh military success — by 80–81 the imperial family was still trading heavily on the destruction of Jerusalem a decade prior. Domitian's position during these years was politically awkward; ancient sources suggest Titus neither trusted nor particularly liked him, and there is speculation he may have accelerated his brother's death.
