Obverse description Laureate head of Domitian facing right, depicted as a young Caesar, with the portrait rendered in the Flavian dynastic style typical of the Rome Mint under Vespasian. The circular Latin legend surrounds the effigy, reading CAESAR AVG F DOMITIANVS COS V, identifying the subject as son of the reigning Augustus and consul for the fifth time. The flan is irregular in shape, as is characteristic of hand-struck bronze coinage of the period, and the surfaces display the olive-green patina consistent with prolonged circulation. The portrait, though worn, retains the characteristic features associated with Domitian's youthful representations prior to his accession.
