| Obverse description | Laureate bust of Emperor Domitian facing right, wearing an aegis on the shoulder, rendered in the naturalistic imperial portrait style characteristic of the Flavian dynasty. The imperial effigy is depicted with strong facial features and the characteristic wreath of laurel befitting a Roman emperor and commander. The encircling Latin legend names the emperor with his full titulature, reading from the left field around the bust. Heavy patination and surface encrustation partially obscure fine detail, consistent with a circulated specimen of this issue. |
