背面描述 The personification of Fides (Public Faith) stands facing front, her head turned slightly, depicted in full-length draped figure rendered in the round. She holds a patera or dish in her right hand and a sceptre or standard in her left hand, her drapery falling in heavy classical folds. The legend FIDEI PVBLICAE is distributed around the field, with FIDEI to the left and PVBLICAE to the right. The large senatorial authority mark S C (Senatus Consultum) is prominently placed in the lower field to either side of the figure, a standard feature on Flavian aes coinage authorised by the Senate. The reverse field displays the typical flat, open style of late first-century Roman bronze coinage.

附加信息

Domitian's FIDEI PVBLICAE ("to Public Faith") bronze issues of 85 AD belong to a calculated program of ideological messaging launched after his consolidation of power following the upheaval of 69 and the reigns of his father and brother. The invocation of Fides — the personification of trust and good faith — carried pointed resonance in an administration increasingly defined by senatorial tension and the emperor's own growing autocratic tendencies. Suetonius later described Domitian's reign as one of terror in its final years, making these early, relatively stable emissions the more historically instructive counterpoint.
