Reverse description The personification of Annona, the goddess of the grain supply, is depicted seated to the left on a throne or chair, draped in flowing robes. She holds a cornucopia in her left hand, symbolizing abundance, while her right hand extends toward a modius (grain measure) set upon a garlanded prow (rostrum) to the right, alluding to Rome's maritime grain trade. The legend ANNONA AVG is disposed in the left and upper field, while the senatorial authorization mark S C (Senatus Consultum) appears in large letters in the exergue below the central figure. The composition conveys Domitian's concern for the public grain supply and the prosperity of the Roman people.
