| Beschrijving voorzijde | Bare head of the deified Emperor Claudius facing right, rendered in the naturalistic portrait style characteristic of Julio-Claudian coinage. The effigy displays the emperor's distinctive physiognomy with heavy neck and slightly furrowed brow. The encircling Latin legend reads TI CL CAESAR AVG P M TR P IMP P P, distributed around the periphery of the flan. This is a restitution issue struck under Titus (AD 80–81), reproducing the original Claudian portrait type as an act of dynastic commemoration. The flan is broad and slightly irregular, as is typical of hammered bronze aes coinage of the period. |
