The senatorial monogram S C (Senatus Consultus) is prominently displayed in large letters to the left and right of the eagle, flanking the central device. The globe beneath the eagle symbolises Roman dominion over the world, while the eagle itself represents the apotheosis and divine elevation of Augustus. A beaded border encircles the entire reverse field. The design is bold and emblematic, typical of the aes coinage struck under Tiberius in honour of his deified predecessor. |
