Obverse description Bare laureate head of Augustus facing right, rendered with fine detail in the Roman imperial portrait tradition, the laurel wreath bound with a prominent fillet. The bust is truncated at the neck, with the effigy occupying the central field in high relief. The encircling legend is divided, reading CAESAR to the left and PONT MAX to the right, separated by a small star or control mark visible in the upper right field. The portrait exhibits the idealized yet individualized style characteristic of Augustan coinage produced at the Lugdunum mint.
