Reverse description Plain field bearing the abbreviated inscription PP / DD arranged in two lines at centre, denoting Permissu Proconsulis / Decreto Decurionum, indicating the coin was struck by authority of the proconsul and by decree of the local senate. The central inscribed area is encircled by the colonial magistrates' legend reading P I SP D V SP IIVIR C I C, distributed around the full periphery in Latin capitals, identifying the duoviri responsible for the issue and the colony of Colonia Iulia Carthago. The reverse is undecorated save for the lettering, presenting a purely epigraphic composition characteristic of Roman colonial bronze coinage. The flan edges are slightly ragged, consistent with hammered production.
