Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered with naturalistic portraiture characteristic of early Augustan provincial coinage. The emperor's features are depicted with short, softly modelled hair swept forward over the brow. The circular legend CAESAR AVG TRIB POTEST runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying Augustus by his tribunician power. The portrait occupies the majority of the flan, with the field showing the patina typical of a hammered bronze issue. The overall style reflects the workshop of the legate Publius Carisius, active in the Hispanian mint at Emerita Augusta.
