Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in a naturalistic Augustan portrait style with finely engraved layered hair swept forward over the brow. The effigy is struck in high relief against a flat field. The legend MVN CAL is inscribed to the left of the portrait and IVL to the right, abbreviating Municipium Calagurris Iulia, the civic title of the mint city.

Reverse description A bull standing right in the central field, rendered in sturdy relief with musculature indicated by engraved lines; the animal's head is turned slightly forward. The legend II VIR L GRANIO appears in two lines in the upper field above the bull's back, while C VALER is inscribed in the exergue below a ground line. The entire design is enclosed within a border of evenly spaced dots, naming the two local magistrates (duoviri) responsible for the issue.
