Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in the idealized Augustan portrait style with neatly arranged hair. The legend MVN CAL IVL (Municipium Calagurris Iulia) is distributed around the field, reading partially to the left and partially to the right of the effigy. The portrait is modeled in relatively high relief, with clearly articulated facial features characteristic of provincial Hispanic coinage of the early Imperial period.
