| Reverse description | The large senatorial monogram SC (Senatus Consultum) dominates the centre of the reverse in bold, raised lettering, occupying the majority of the field in the manner standard for Augustan aes coinage. The legend of the moneyer Cnaeus Calpurnius Piso encircles the SC monogram, reading around the periphery of the flan. The flan is irregular and slightly chipped at the edges, typical of hammered bronze production of this period. The overall composition emphasises the authority of the Roman Senate in the issuance of base-metal coinage. |
