Reverse description The large senatorial monogram S·C (Senatus Consultum) dominates the central field in bold, deeply struck characters, conveying the authority of the Roman Senate for the issue of bronze coinage. The moneyer's legend encircles the central device along the full periphery of the flan, reading continuously around the coin. The reverse is characteristically simple and unadorned aside from the legend and central mark, as is typical of Augustan aes coinage struck under the reformed monetary system.
