正面描述 Helmeted head of Athena facing right, rendered in the Greco-Roman provincial style typical of the Iberian mint at Emporiae. The goddess wears a crested Corinthian helmet, the cheekpieces clearly delineated. The portrait occupies the central field with minimal border ornamentation, reflecting the transitional Hellenistic-Roman artistic tradition of the late Republican period.

附加信息

Emporia was a Punic trading settlement on the North African coast — distinct from the better-known Emporion in northeastern Hispania — that retained the right to strike bronze coinage under Roman oversight during the late Republican period. This issue falls within the decades following Caesar's decisive campaigns in Africa, when local civic mints across the former Carthaginian sphere were gradually absorbed into Roman provincial administration without immediately losing their nominal independence.

The RPC I 235 attribution places this firmly among the earliest catalogued provincial bronzes, a category still actively revised as new hoards surface from Tunisia and the Libyan coast.
