Carbula was a small Iberian settlement in the Baetis valley — modern Alcolea del Río, in Andalusia — and its coinage is among the most localized issues of the entire Hispanic series. The town sat on a key river crossing and likely minted under the indirect influence of the Roman military presence pushing through the region during the Second Punic War's aftermath. Very few civic authorities at this level produced bronze of this weight class, making Carbula's output an anomaly worth noting.
