Acinipo, perched on a limestone plateau above the Ronda valley in what is now Andalusia, was one of a clutch of Turdetani towns that adopted Roman monetary forms while maintaining a distinctly local identity. The city issued coinage in its own name during the late Republican period, a window that closed as Augustus consolidated control over Hispania and municipal autonomy contracted sharply. Surviving examples are scarce — Acinipo was never a major mint, and the site's limited excavation history means the full chronology of its issues remains contested among Iberian specialists.
