Aanvullende informatie

Emporia — present-day Ampurias on the Catalan coast — occupied a peculiar administrative position in the late Republic: a dual settlement where a Greek colonial town and a Roman military camp had grown into an uneasy shared municipality. This bronze issue dates to the period after Emporion's formal incorporation under Roman civic structures, likely accelerated by Caesar's veteran colony foundations in northeastern Hispania during the 40s BC. The city retained enough local autonomy to strike its own bronze, a right that diminished steadily as Augustan monetary reforms consolidated provincial coinage.
