Year 11 of Hadrian's reign coincided with his first extended tour of the eastern provinces — he reached Egypt in late 127 AD, an event that triggered an extraordinary burst of local coinage from the Alexandrian mint. The BI tetradrachms produced in the years immediately surrounding his visit reflect both civic celebration and the administrative machinery of Roman Egypt, where the prefect controlled the closed currency system that kept Roman silver out and local issues in.
The Köln and Dattari references place this among a well-documented but genuinely diverse group, with RPC III 5484 consolidating earlier attributions.
