AR30 - Hadrian COS III

Miletus, though long past its classical peak by the 2nd century AD, retained enough civic prestige to strike silver issues under Hadrian — an emperor who traveled the eastern provinces extensively and whose personal interest in Greek culture gave cities like Miletus both the political access and the motivation to produce honorific coinage. The COS III designation places this issue no earlier than 119 AD, when Hadrian entered his third consulship, which he held continuously for the remainder of his reign.

Provincial silver of this module from the Milesian conventus is considerably scarcer than the city's bronze output from the same period.
