| Reverse description | Frontal cult statue of Artemis Ephesia (Diana Ephesia) shown in the iconic xoanon form, standing rigidly erect upon a stepped base. The goddess wears a turreted crown (polos) and her lower body is encased in a tight sheath adorned with multiple rows of ovoid protrusions, traditionally interpreted as breasts, eggs, or gourds symbolizing fertility. Her arms extend horizontally at shoulder height, supported by lateral stag figures or supports flanking the body. The composition faithfully reproduces the celebrated cult image housed in the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus. The Latin legend DIANA EPHESIA is distributed in the field to left and right of the figure, within a beaded border. |
