Hadrian's COS III issues date from 119 AD onward, when he assumed his third consulship — a title he held continuously for the remainder of his reign, making it one of the longer sustained consular tenures in imperial history. The broad weight of this piece, over 10.5 grams, places it among the heavier surviving denarii of the period, before the slow debasement that accelerated under his successors gathered momentum.
