| Reverse description | Tetrastyle temple depicted in three-quarter perspective, set upon a podium of three steps, with four columns supporting an entablature and pediment rendered in relief. Within the intercolumniation stands the cult image of Kore (Persephone), the principal deity of Sardis, flanked by a corn ear to the left and a poppy and corn ear to the right, emblematic of her chthonic and fertility associations. The civic legend COS III appears in the field with SARD inscribed inwardly in the exergue, identifying the issuing city of Sardis. The composition reflects the Hellenistic architectural and religious traditions of Lydia. |
