Obverse description Laureate bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, with bare neck, portrayed in the imperial Roman style typical of Alexandrian provincial coinage. The obverse legend, rendered in Greek characters, runs around the periphery of the field identifying the emperor with his titles. The portrait shows strong, classicising facial features consistent with Trajanic numismatic iconography.

Reverse description The god Nilus reclines to the left upon a crocodile, his body semi-draped in the Hellenistic tradition. In his right hand he holds a tall reed, while his left arm cradles a cornucopia, both attributes emblematic of the Nile's life-giving abundance. The figure's relaxed, recumbent posture is characteristic of Alexandrian reverses celebrating the fertility of Egypt. The date legend L ΕΝΑΤΟΥ, indicating regnal year nine of Trajan, appears in the field.
