| Beschrijving keerzijde | The Agathodaemon, the sacred protective serpent deity of Alexandria, depicted erect and rearing to the right, its body rendered in sinuous coils. The serpent is crowned with the double Egyptian skhent crown, symbolising sovereignty over Upper and Lower Egypt, and is shown enfolding a caduceus and a stalk of grain, emblematic of the city's prosperity and divine protection. The regnal date legend L ΙΗ (Year 18) appears in the field, dating the coin to the eighteenth year of Trajan's reign. A beaded border surrounds the design. |
