Additional information

Year 4 of Severus Alexander's reign coincides with the early period of his rule under the heavy influence of his mother, Julia Mamaea, whose grip on imperial administration was strong enough that some ancient sources treated her as the effective power behind the throne. The Alexandria mint operated under Roman prefectural oversight but retained its own regnal dating system tied to the Egyptian calendar year — which is why Alexandrian coins can often be dated more precisely than their Rome-struck counterparts.

Emmett 3080.4 places this among a well-documented but not especially common tetradrachm type for the year.
