AR25 - Nero ΑΓΡΙΠΠΙΝΑ ΣΕΒΑΣΤΗ, L Ε

This tetradrachm belongs to regnal year 5 of Nero's reign, a period when his mother Agrippina the Younger still commanded enough political weight to appear on Alexandrian coinage — a privilege that would not last. Within a year, Nero had her murdered at her villa at Baiae, and her portrait vanished from the coinage accordingly. The Alexandrian mint, sensitive to shifts in imperial favor, dropped her image almost immediately after her death in 59 AD.

The Egyptian series is the only provincial coinage to have documented her so systematically across consecutive regnal years, making year 5 pieces the final chapter of that sequence.
