Additional information

Year five of Nero's reign in Egypt — rendered as L Ε in the regnal dating system used on Alexandrian coinage — fell during a period when the prefect of Egypt held unusual administrative autonomy, issuing coinage entirely independent of the Roman senatorial mint. The ΟΜΟΝΟΙΑ type, invoking civic concord, appeared across multiple Neronian Alexandrian issues and likely reflected propaganda pressure following the political turbulence of Claudius's final years and Nero's own succession, which had involved Agrippina's elimination of rivals with conspicuous efficiency.

Alexandrian billon of this period suffers notoriously inconsistent silver content — by Nero's reign the tetradrachm fabric had already begun the long debasement that would accelerate under later dynasties. Milne 214 and Dattari 190 confirm this as a well-documented type, though individual die states vary considerably.
