The god holds a laurel branch before him, a attribute commonly associated with Apollo in his role as deity of prophecy and the arts. To the left of the bust appears the regnal year in Greek numerals, with the legend ΕΤ ΕΝΑΤ (Year Nine) confirming the date of issue as regnal year 9 of Hadrian, corresponding to 124–125 AD. A beaded border surrounds the design. |

This tetradrachm dates to Hadrian's ninth regnal year by the Egyptian calendar — "ET ENAT" marking year nine of his reign, which ran from 29 August 124 to 28 August 125 AD. Alexandria's mint operated under Roman supervision but maintained its own dating conventions and fabric, producing billon and silver issues that functioned as a closed currency system: Alexandrian coinage could not legally circulate outside Egypt, nor could Roman imperial coin freely substitute within it.
Hadrian visited Egypt in 130 AD, five years after this piece was struck.
