| Obverse description | Laureate head of Emperor Galba facing right, with characteristic aged and stern physiognomy rendered in the Alexandrian provincial style. The Greek legend ΣΕΡΟΥΙ ΓΑΛΒΑ ΑΥΤΟ ΚΑΙΣ ΣΕΒΑ surrounds the effigy, transliterating his imperial titulature into Greek characters. The regnal year indicator L Β (Year 2) appears in the field, denoting the second year of Galba's reign corresponding to the Alexandrian calendar year 68-69 AD. The flan is irregularly shaped, typical of Alexandrian silver tetradrachm production of this period. |
