| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Caracalla facing right, depicted with short curly beard and hair beneath the radiate crown. The emperor's paludamentum is visible at the shoulder, conveying his dual role as emperor and military commander. The Greek legend ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟϹ ϹΕ runs around the periphery of the flan. The portrait is rendered in a vigorous provincial style characteristic of Mesopotamian civic coinage of the Severan period. |
