Reverse description Schematic frontal view of the celebrated Temple of Aphrodite at Paphos, depicted as a colonnaded sanctuary with three columned sections: a tall central naos flanked by two lower lateral wings, each supported by columns on stepped bases. Within the central intercolumniation stands the canonical conical xoanon (betyl) of Aphrodite, the sacred aniconic cult image of the goddess. The architectural rendering faithfully reflects the well-known iconography of the Paphian sanctuary as preserved on numerous Cypriot coins. The Greek legend ΕΤΟΥϹ ΝΕΟΥ ΙΕΡΟΥ Η, denoting regnal year 8 of the New Sacred Year, arcs around the design within a beaded border.
